CarrierScrub

Carriers by state

Trucking Companies by State

Every state side by side: how many carriers are registered there, how many hold active FMCSA operating authority, how CarrierScrub's verdict splits across them, and how often five documented fraud signals turn up. Select a column heading to sort. To check one carrier, use the free DOT number lookup.

All figures come from one CarrierScrub import of FMCSA open data on 9 September 2026. The authority, insurance and revocation files behind them are FMCSA's legacy files, which FMCSA last updated on 14 May 2026, so the counts describe carriers' records as of that date. A single lookup uses the carrier's current record instead.

The 50 states compared

Carriers based in each of the 50 states, as of CarrierScrub's 9 Sep 2026 import. Percentages are shares of the state's carriers with active authority. Alphabetical until sorted.

“New authority at a revoked carrier's contact” is a count, not a share: it is under 50 in every state, too few for a rate to mean much. The 50 states hold 352,730 of the 379,060 carriers with active authority nationally; the rest are based in DC, the territories or abroad.

What stands out

Only the states where the table shows something specific. Every figure is from the table above.

Where each column comes from

On fileUSDOT registrations whose address on FMCSA's file is in the state, in CarrierScrub's import of FMCSA's open data on 9 September 2026. Most are dormant.
Active authorityOf those, carriers holding active operating authority in FMCSA's Licensing & Insurance files (last updated by FMCSA 14 May 2026). Every percentage on this page is a share of this number.
GO / CAUTION / STOPCarrierScrub's verdict for each active carrier, computed 9 September 2026 from operating authority and insurance filings under the rules in force that day (today's rules are published here). Safety rating, out-of-service and crash history were not part of this rollup.
Fraud signalsThe five state counts from Fraud signals in FMCSA carrier data, Q3 2026 (CSV), over the same 9 September import. Authority, insurance and revocation facts are as of FMCSA's 14 May 2026 files; telephone numbers come from FMCSA's census, current to 9 September. The report defines each signal.
Intrastate USDOT requiredWhether FMCSA lists the state among those that require intrastate commercial motor vehicle registrants to obtain a USDOT number. FMCSA, Do I need a USDOT number?, last updated 3 September 2025, read 17 September 2026.

Each state name links to that state's page, which lists a sample of its carriers. None of these numbers alleges anything about a named company; look a carrier up to see its own dated record.
