How this page works

CarrierScrub keeps a daily copy of two FMCSA open datasets on data.transportation.gov, Motus Carrier (each operating authority's status, required cover, liability, cargo and bond on file, and returned-mail flags) and the Company Census File (phone, email, address, name and status), and compares each day with the one before. These counts are the differences. Motus is compared in full every day. The census is compared daily for carriers that filed an MCS-150 update and in full once a week, so census counts run higher on the weekly sweep. A change FMCSA makes and reverses between two runs is not seen.

How often is this page updated?

Once a day, at about 15:10 UTC, after CarrierScrub's daily comparison of FMCSA's records has run. Each day also gets its own page at /news/ followed by the date.

Where do the FMCSA numbers come from?

From FMCSA's own open data on data.transportation.gov: the Motus Carrier dataset for operating authority, insurance, bond and returned-mail status, and the Company Census File for contact details. CarrierScrub compares each day's copy with the day before and counts what changed. No carrier is named on this page.

Does CarrierScrub write the news stories?

No. Each headline links to the publisher that wrote it. CarrierScrub picks the stories that bear on vetting carriers and shows the headline, publisher and date, nothing more.

How do I check a specific carrier?

Enter its USDOT or MC number in the free lookup at carrierscrub.com/dot-number-lookup. The result shows its authority, insurance and safety record, and what has changed on its FMCSA record since CarrierScrub's daily archive began.

Check the carrier. Then tender the load.
Authority, insurance and contact details change every day, as the counts above show. A check takes a few seconds and is free for three carriers a day.
